the winter poem
The crows sweep out from my car
on the country roads, frozen fields
and a wave of black,
it lifts me as they flock away and
back, silent and sure of themselves,
then the chatter as I pass,
the community, fighting and
blooming up from the dead ground,
continuous motion.
